![]() ![]() I then installed either drywall or 1/2" plywood (metric equivalent on the larger side) depending on if it was a storage area or was going to be part of my future woodshop.ġ. ![]() Once the insulation was up, I covered the wall in 10 mil plastic sheeting, stapling it in place and taping the seams. You could also use a cheap bread knife that has those u shaped cuts to ease cutting of bread to cut the insulation. I used an inexpensive purpose-designed knife (sold by Home Depot) to cut the insulation to shape and was amazed at how easy it was to install vs. The difference in cost was way offset by the reduction in time and aggravation. I very carefully placed each Rockwool batt so there was an air gap along the outside wall, allowing that wall to breathe. I removed all the fiberglass insulation, then cleaned the area, then installed Rockwool sound reduction batt insulation for 2 X 4 walls. He'd damaged the fiberglass so badly during installation it was basically doing nothing at all. I bought a home with a basement that was poorly insulated by the previous owner with fiberglass. Both are recently installed hurricane rated windows and are effective at mitigating sound transfer but are not effective with the wall as currently constructed. If not, does anyone have personal experience successfully mitigating noise transmission through a concrete block wall? If so, what method did you use?ĮDIT: There is a small window in the bath and an egress window in the bedroom. Has anyone here done something similar? Was it effective? My tentative plan would be to fully frame the inside of the block wall in both the bath and bedroom with 2x4's and fill the cavity with Rockwool Safe 'n' Sound and cover with a noise mitigating drywall such as QuietRock. I'd like feedback from those of you who have successfully dealt with a similar issue. I am willing to sacrifice a few inches of floor space to mitigate the noise. I am going to do a gut renovation of the master bath and the bedroom. The noise from these devices has become untenable. ![]() Outside the wall are the neighbor's two A/C units and pool pump. The master bedroom and master bath are along an exterior block wall. Inside the house, the exterior block walls simply have furring strips and drywall, with no insulation. My home is 1980's concrete block construction in Florida. ![]()
